The economic impacts of tourism-related private investment in Jamaica

This study assesses the economy-wide impacts of private investment in hotel industry Jamaica. Specifically, paper develops a tourism-extended social accounting matrix (SAM) and dynamic computable general equilibrium (CGE) model tailored to Jamaican economy. To analyse terms poverty inequality, CGE results are linked with microsimulation model. The demonstrate that tourism investments leading an expansion foreign demand for can have positive on national economies gross domestic product (GDP), employment, household incomes reduction. However, distribution benefits is dependent socioeconomic factors such as factor endowments among households. At sectoral level, sectors catering more directly experience highest rates growth, while export-oriented do not fare well given upward pressure prices real exchange rate resulting from higher spending.
